42GG House, Paddington
A Home That Respects Heritage and Embraces Change
Nestled in the heart of Paddington, 42GG House is a careful alteration and extension of a charming early 20th-century timber cottage. Our design honours the home’s heritage character while responding thoughtfully to contemporary family life — crafting a space that is both grounded in place and open to the future.
Heritage with Purpose
We restored and celebrated the original cottage features, including the front verandah, ensuring new additions respect the neighbourhood’s historic fabric. The architecture is pared back to what matters most — enough to protect and enhance character, without excess or compromise.
Designed for Living, Growing, and Connecting
The home supports a family lifestyle that evolves over time. Workspaces are light-filled and private yet connected, offering flexibility for multi-generational living. Living and entertaining areas are generous but restrained, fostering a warm, natural flow between indoors and outdoors that invites connection to the subtropical climate.
Materiality that Endures
Materials are carefully selected for their warmth, durability, and environmental responsibility. Natural finishes complement the original timber aesthetic and support a home that will age gracefully with ease of maintenance and repair.
Comfort and Resilience
Through considered passive design strategies, the home achieves thermal comfort and natural ventilation with minimal reliance on mechanical systems. It’s a resilient, adaptable space that supports wellbeing today and into the future.
At 42GG House, we believe good architecture is intentional and open — designed not just for now, but to grow and adapt as life unfolds. This is a home that honours its past, serves its present, and leaves room for what’s next.
